lets start with my fav album from kendrick and also my fav of all time, good kid, m.A.A.d city this album tells the story of young kendrick lamar a.k.a kdot and his life in compton U.S.A, his life in compton is harsh and filled with violence and gangs, this leads kendrick to end up doing crime anmd other things to fit in with the other kids in compton. now lets take a look at the songs them self starting with "Sherane a.k.a Master Splinter's Daughter" this song tells the tale of kendrick meating a girl at a house party, but before all that we hear a prayer, a holy prayer to God (this will be VERY FUCKING IMPORTANT!!!!). kendrick starts to talk with the girl, noticing her features as they chat more kendrick wants to get with the girl, but the girl has a family history of crime, shown in the lines "her favorite cousin, Demetrius, is irrepetible" and " family history of gangbanging did make me skeptical". But kendrick still takes the chance and goes with this girl --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- over all this song isnt one of my favs off the album, i dont like the beat or flow, but the story telling is good, it gets a 6/10 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- now lets move on to the second song "bitch dont kill my vibe" i dont think this song takes place in the main story of the album, its more non-canon, but it is still VERY good. this song starts with the phrase "i am a sinner, who's prolly gonna sin again. Lord forgive me, Lord forgive me. things i dont understand". this is kendrick adressing his sins and asking for forgiveness from god, perhaps the sins he does during the album. now the song switchs to kendrick calling out the rappers who do it for the money and the fame, not to send a message or change peoples hearts, this is shown in the lines "look inside of your soul and you can find out it never exist" and "you can see my city found me and put me on stages, to me thats amazin', to you thats a quick check, with all disrespect let me say this" he then calls out the ego's and insecuritys of said rappers in the lines "i know what your scared of, the feeling of feeling emotions inferior" this calls out the fear of being weak and inferior --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this song gets a 10/10, really good flow, great lyrics, amazing beat --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- next song is "backseat freestyle" since it is just a freestyle in the back of a car. kendrick starts this song with "martin had a dream!!!" then "kendrick have a dream!!" this contrasts the selfless dreams of martin luther king jr with the immature often selffish dreams of a teenage boy growing up in compton this is backed up my the line "all my life i want money and power" this shows kendricks wants and goals early in the album. he then says the line "respect my mind or die from lead shower" and "my mind is livin' on cloud 9 and this 9 is never on vacation" this shows he is willing to kill anyone who disrespects him (not really, the album is named good kid, m.A.A.d city) he then says the line "damn i got bitchs, wifey, girlfriend and mistress" this shows the fact he thinks about sex in women at this time --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i think the flow and beat on this song is really good, and i LOVE the lyrics 9.5/10 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this next song is called "the art of peer pressure" the song starts by Kendrick telling the listener to sit down and listen to a true story told by him on Rosecrans then the song starts talking about Kendricks doings compton with the lines "Smoking on the finest dope ay-ay-ay-yah. Drank until i cant no more ay-ay-ay-yah, really im a sober soul, but im with the homies right nowwwww" this tells us kendrick as been smoking weed and drinking, but the line "really im a sober soul, but im with the homies right now" stands out because it shows that kendrick isnt doing this for himself or to himself, he is doing this for brownie points and respect from his friends and people around him, this shows he is falling into the trap of peer pressure. In the next few lines it says "And momma used to say, one day its gon burn you out", this is telling us that putting on a act to fit in can burn you out and make you tired or get rid of motivation, this is what Kendrick is doing, he is putting on a act to fit in and get respect. The songs beat switchs and sets a scene witt the line "me and my n****s four deep in a white toyota, a quarter tank of gas, one pistol, one orange soda". it then documents Kendricks goals in this toyota and his actions with lines such as "We on the mission for bad bitchs and trouble" and "hotboxin' like george forman grillin' the masses of the workin' world. We pulled up on a bunch of workin' girls and asked them what they workin' with. look at me, i got the blunt in my mouth, usually im drug-free, but shit im with the homies". the song continues to document kendrick's doings until the line "pull in front the house that we been campin' out for like two months. the sun is going down as we take whatever we want" this tells us that Kendrick is robbing a house, but it takes a turn for the worst when we hear Kendrick's friend say "aye n***a i think there's somebody in this room!" they need to get the fuck out and kendrick grabs a few things before leaving. but the cops were called on them, they hop in the car and drive off with the cops chaseing "we made a right then made a left the made a right, we was just cirlcing life. My momma called kendricks mom:"hello? what you doin'?" kendrick:"kickin' it" prolly shoulda told her im about to catch my first offence with the homies" this shows us kendrick is in a police chase with his friends, and lies to his mother about where he is and what he is doing BUT then! the lines "but they made a right, then made a left, then made a right, then another right, one lucky night with the homies" shows that the police took a wrong turn and kendrick is saved woohoo!, dont celebrate too early Kendricks (evil) friends say "K-dot you faded hood?", "i think he hit the wrong blunt tho, i think he hit the one with the shenanigans in it" Kendrick's blunt had been laced with coke!. they talk about what to do for the day and agree to drop Kendrick off at his momma's van after they finish --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this song gets a 9/10 for me, i like the beat, i like the flow and the story telling is amazing! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the next tuff 67 mango song is named "money trees" the reviews from here will be shorter cuz i was making this too long --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ima do this one quick. "Halle Berry or Hallelujah" Kendrick calls evil (lust, the devil, pride) Halle berry, and he calls Hallelujah good (God, humbleness and being a good person). lets talk on the next line "pick your poison, tell me what you doin'" this means in both you will need discernment, being able to pick right from wrong and truth from false. next line! "everybody gon' respect the shooter, but the one infront of the gun lives forever" he is saying the one that is killed lives in everyones memory forever. in the line " a dollar mnight just fuck your main bitch" means that money can lure a committed girl out of a relationship with another man ok last line im gonna explain cuz i am a busy man "a dollar might say, fuck them ni**as that you came with". this is saying "money can lure you away from your friends and family"
